Al Khawaneej School of Music is an institution located next to a school designed by Pritzker Prize winners of 2017 - RCR Architects. The main organizational strategy of the music school is the assemblage of the three main volumes (according to functions served). One fully educational, one administrative, and one common space, which is the auditorium. Since the main users of the school are aged between twelve and eighteen years of age, it was necessary to break down the monumental scale of the project to gradually compliment children’s experience while entering the project. Thus, the introduction of the canopy, which also provides shade as well as unifying the whole project by interconnecting the three main functional elements. Another important aspect of the project is the use of vegetation. Here it is used to block views at certain moments, attract different species of birds to the site to give a more pleasant experience while in the school, and as sound mitigator (which would be helpful during traffic rush hours in the neighborhood). Side note: One of the requirements of the studio was to compile all the documents following each stage of project development. From the Site Analysis to Construction Documents.
